  • Julia Luczak-Rougeaux
  • 8 octobre 2024
🛈 The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) is investigating Ryanair's use of facial recognition for passenger identity verification at the EU's request, following numerous complaints. The inquiry will assess compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Austrian NGO Noyb filed a complaint in Spain during summer 2023, alleging that Ryanair imposes this technology without informed consent. Ryanair defends its practices as GDPR-compliant and essential for passenger safety, aimed at preventing online ticket fraud. The investigation's outcome could lead to severe financial penalties under GDPR for non-compliance.

  • La Tribune de lHotellerie
  • 7 octobre 2024
🚫 Marriott filed a lawsuit in May 2021 against anonymous actors for exploiting its brand and violating federal and state laws. Companies made illegal automated calls pretending to be Marriott employees, selling vacations and timeshares, often harassing consumers. Marriott enlisted YouMail and Industry Traceback Group to track these calls, leading to the addition of ten national and foreign defendants in 2022. By September 23, 2024, Marriott won cases against six U.S.-based defendants and continued actions against two foreign entities, including Cancun Ink Corp.

  • Romain
  • 4 octobre 2024
🔒 Guest Suite, a company operating in France and globally, warns against buying fake Google reviews. Blumenthal, a UK-based local search expert, discovered Google's "badge of shame" indicating "Suspicious reviews were recently removed." This is Google's first public notification of such activities. The badge system, though occasionally erroneous, is disputable by businesses and could be influenced by the EU's stricter moderation requirements under the Digital Market Act. Sanctions include a 30-day deletion of all customer reviews for violators.

  • scarlet
  • 3 octobre 2024
💻 The EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA), introduced to ensure a fair digital market, targets 'gatekeepers' like Google. By September 2023, six companies including Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta, and Microsoft were identified as gatekeepers by the EU and given six months to comply. Key changes for Google, effective March 2024, include altering search results presentation to avoid favoring its own services and incorporating reviews from various sources, not just Google. A study between January and April 2024 found a 30% decrease in clicks to hotel sites and a 36% drop in direct bookings, indicating that OTAs are benefiting. Booking.com was added to the gatekeepers list in May, with expected standard adjustments by November, and the 'rate parity' obligation was abolished in the EU, allowing price differentiation across sales platforms.

  • TH
  • 26 septembre 2024

The Israeli National Tourism Office (ONIT) is initiating strategic actions by late 2024 and early 2025. Key steps include meetings in major French cities, starting with an event in Nice on September 24, followed by visits to Lyon and Marseille, targeting Jewish, Catholic, and Evangelical communities, plus local media. Israel anticipates a significant influx of Catholic pilgrims during the 2025 Jubilee year.

  • ghr.fr
  • 20 septembre 2024
📌 In France, hoteliers contracting cleaning services for linen must request an attestation of vigilance from the provider to avoid being liable for any social debts, applicable for contracts over €5,000 before tax. This attestation, provided by URSSAF, must be submitted at contract inception and every six months thereafter. Failure to comply can result in civil, criminal, and administrative penalties including solidarity payment for the subcontractor's debts, loss of social security reductions, and potential penalties for offenses like undeclared work or illegal employment of foreigners. The DREETS of Brittany offers check-lists for hiring French (https://bretagne.dreets.gouv.fr/IMG/pdf/2024_uracti_bretagne_-_recours_a_un_prestataire_francais.pdf) and foreign contractors (https://bretagne.dreets.gouv.fr/IMG/pdf/2024_uracti_bretagne_-_recours_a_un_prestataire_etranger.pdf).

  • Guilain Denisselle
  • 20 septembre 2024
🏨 In Europe, the CJUE has definitively prohibited "extended or restricted parity" clauses from Booking.com contracts, a policy initially contested by a Dutch court. France banned such clauses with the 2015 Macron Law, followed by Italy and Sweden; other countries have joined through legislation or court rulings. Extended parity prevented hotels from offering lower rates than those on Booking.com on any channel, while restricted parity only applied to the hotel's own sales channels, allowing other OTAs to offer lower prices.

IFTM24 : 3 questions à Sojern

  • Julia Luczak-Rougeaux
  • 19 septembre 2024
📱 During the IFTM Top Resa 2024 event, Cédric Lopez from Sojern highlighted artificial intelligence (AI) as transforming the tourism landscape by enhancing marketing performance and content targeting. AI generative intelligence adapts website content based on user data like origin, age, and behavior. Despite Google's recent decision not to eliminate third-party cookies from Chrome, allowing users to choose their activation, the tourism industry is shifting towards "hashed emails" for online traveler targeting while maintaining privacy. Additionally, the RGPD's right to data portability is considered inferior to the ID enrichment approach for user targeting and experience.
