🗺 2025, worldwide: The World Travel & Tourism Council reports greenhouse gas emissions from the tourism sector are 9.3% lower than in 2019, despite surpassing pre-pandemic activity levels. The sector's GDP contribution has increased by 6%. Emissions per economic unit have dropped by 15%, with 40% from transport and 19% from purchased electricity. The sector's share of global emissions is down to 7.3% from 8.3% in 2019. Fossil fuel use decreased by 5.7%, with low-emission energy use up 16.6%.
