🌍 Since 2023, Rennes Métropole, Destination Rennes, and the CCI of Ille-et-Vilaine have been aiding Rennes' accommodations in sustainable transition efforts. Now, 27 hotels and lodgings, 23 with the Green Key label, are certified or labeled—28% of the area's tourist establishments. New applications for Green Key support in 2025 are open until April 15, 2025. Initially, 11 sites were committed to sustainability, with 4 European Ecolabels and 7 Green Keys. Seventeen additional establishments joined post-2023, with 13 receiving financial support from Rennes Métropole, totaling 27 labeled accommodations and 4,440 beds among 96 merchant tourist establishments.

✈️ IATA announced the creation of the non-profit Civil Aviation Decarbonization Organization (CADO) on March 24, 2025, to manage the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) registry. Companies can join the SAF Registry for free until April 2027. CADO, headquartered in Montreal, will standardize and transparently record SAF transactions, and is open to all stakeholders involved in sustainable fuel production.

🏠 Mipim Awards, established in 1991, honor sustainable and visionary real estate projects aligning with ESG goals. The 2025 winner in the hotel category is Sky Mirrors, situated in Luzhou, China, on a mountain. Developed for Sichuan Gulin Langjiu Distillery Co by French architects Zone of Utopia (Zou Qiang and Mathieu Forest), the project is praised for its sustainable long-term focus and positive impact on the local community. Sky Mirrors features an architectural design that integrates with nature, offering a view of an 'infinite horizon' and incorporating two mirrors that reflect the sky and landscape.

🏨 Hilton and Black Label Hotels (BLH) continue their successful partnership with the upcoming Hilton Garden Inn Brussels Airport, set for an October 2025 opening at The Wings business complex, near Brussels Airport. This marks their third joint venture, aiming at sustainable hospitality. The new hotel will provide 250 rooms for business and leisure travelers, meeting spaces, wellness facilities, and an open kitchen restaurant. It will be the only hotel in the region to have lounges dedicated to airline staff. The Wings, already housing EY Belgium's headquarters, has triple certification: BREEAM Excellent, WELL Gold, and DGNB Gold, and is CO2 neutral.

🏨 IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global hospitality leader, announced the addition of four European hotels to its Low Carbon Pioneer program, which features energy-efficient hotels with no on-site fossil fuel use (except for backup generators under 5% of annual total energy consumption) and is supported by renewable energies. The program, first of its kind in the hotel industry, began with three hotels in July 2024. The Holiday Inn Express Asuncion Aviadores in Paraguay also joined, marking a first for the Americas. Each hotel offers sustainable solutions like high-efficiency heat pumps and fully electric kitchens, and must achieve operational sustainability certification within 12 months of opening.

🏖️ Comporta, near Lisbon, will see a new eco-friendly designed Six Senses resort from IHG Hotels & Resorts and VIC Properties, featuring 70 rooms and 58 branded residences on a 400-hectare former private estate. The resort includes 66 deluxe rooms and suites, three garden villas, one presidential villa, and residences ranging from 2-5 bedrooms, all respecting biophilic principles. Announced by Six Senses CEO Neil Jacobs, the opening is slated for 2028, aiming to harmonize luxury with nature and wellness.
