  • Thomas
  • 27 avril 2025
🌎 In spring 2025, Booking's annual survey revealed for the first time that over 50% (53%) of travelers are aware of tourism's impact on the environment. The study, "Sustainable Report," involved 32,000 global participants. While 57% see tourism positively affecting their regions, only 16% support limiting visitor numbers, favoring local infrastructure investments instead. Approximately 73% want their spending to benefit local communities, and 69% aim to leave destinations better than found. A significant 84% consider sustainable travel important, and 93% want to make responsible travel choices. Since 2016, traveler awareness has more than doubled from 42%. Actions include reducing waste, conserving water and energy, and choosing off-peak travel times. The practice of turning off air conditioning or heating when leaving a room increased from 43% in 2020 to 67% in 2023.

  • Thomas
  • 27 avril 2025
📊 French household confidence remained stable in April with an index at 92, below the long-term average of 100. Insee's monthly economic survey suggests the French are resilient, with their personal financial situation perceived as stable or slightly improved. Despite concerns about future living standards and unemployment, lower price increase perceptions may encourage vacation spending. Ipsos survey for Kayak found 49% of French plan to take days off during May's long weekends, with 41% preferring domestic travel, and 34% favoring nature activities. Budget-wise, 40% plan to spend under €250 per person. Two-thirds of French intend to travel between April and June, an increase of 3 points from last year, favoring domestic destinations (85% of stays) but projecting a slight decrease in summer travel intentions to 69% from 73%.

  • Thomas
  • 21 avril 2025
💳 Opinion Way's study, conducted with 1043 French participants from February 19-21 in partnership with Adyen, reveals payment behaviors abroad. A majority (82%) prefer booking with known platforms, with 86% of 18-24-year-olds valuing recognized sites for reservations over older travelers. Younger travelers also favor single-use cards for booking security (73% of 18-24 vs. 56% of older respondents) and prefer card payments over cash when abroad (55% of the youth vs. 38% of older travelers). Income influences payment caution, with wealthier travelers showing more flexibility. A third of French people seek last-minute deals for vacation bookings (36%), with younger and lower-income groups more inclined towards last-minute discounts (43% under 35, 44% of lower-income vs. 26% over 65). Concerns over foreign transaction fees are common (84% fear them), and half prefer cash over cards when traveling internationally (52%). Modern financial practices include nearly half using instant transfers (47%) and a third favoring installment payments for vacation bookings (38%).

Airbnb dit “Welcome !” au Prix Total depuis hier.

  • Thomas
  • 21 avril 2025
📍 Airbnb announced a significant change to their pricing presentations called "Total Price" on Easter Monday. Over the past two years, guests preferred the total price option over basic rates without fees, as evidenced by over 17 million activations. The company, reacting to negative feedback and government pressures, like those from the Biden administration, implemented the change. Additionally, 300,000 hosts have eliminated or significantly reduced cleaning fees. As of yesterday, all listings now display the total cost upfront, excluding taxes. This shift towards transparency aims to uphold Airbnb's foundational principle as an affordable hotel alternative. 🏡 Please note that I wasn't able to include some of the numerical details due to the word limit constraint.

  • Thomas
  • 21 avril 2025
📊 Cornell University researchers analyzed the profitability of multi-channel distribution in the hospitality industry, studying 644 U.S. hotels. The study, applicable to the 110,000 hotels across the U.S., suggests that using Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) can be beneficial for hoteliers, particularly larger ones, with a 99% reliability rate for the sample. However, the impact differs by hotel category; luxury and mid-range hotels see positive effects, while economy hotels may suffer due to commission costs. The U.S. hotel market, dominated by chains (90% of the sample), contrasts with Europe's landscape of independent hotels. Relevant regulatory changes in Europe, like the ban on rate parity clauses, could impact the online distribution profitability differently. Direct booking costs for hoteliers are approximately 4-4.5%, significantly lower than the average 25% OTA commissions.

  • Thomas
  • 14 avril 2025
💰 Leisure professionals question the necessity of OTAs for maximizing visibility and revenue. By listing on platforms like Google Activities, GetYourGuide, and Viator (TripAdvisor), they can increase their catchment area without fixed costs. OTAs function as search engines, improving visibility and ranking with more bookings, creating a virtuous cycle. Strategies include optimizing listings with strategic keywords, detailed descriptions, captivating visuals, and positive reviews to improve ranking and conversions, ultimately leading to more customers, both tourists and locals.

Les marques ont-elles encore de l’intérêt ? L’exemple de Gîtes de France

  • Thomas
  • 13 avril 2025
🏠 Gîtes de France celebrated 70 years in 2024 and added 7,000 new properties, joining nearly 55,000 owners, 84% of whom are in rural areas. Despite a trend of properties leaving the network in recent years to avoid commissions and leverage digital platforms like Airbnb, Booking, and Expedia, the network has adapted to allow property owners to choose their solutions and maintain autonomy while still benefiting from the brand. Although Google Trends shows a decline in the "Gîtes de France" brand search interest, the term "gite" remains strong, indicating sustained interest in this type of accommodation. Gîtes de France has managed to retain appeal among owners and remains a favorite brand in France, even as it competes with OTAs and maintains a significant online presence with 43% of bookings through its websites and local centers.

  • Thomas
  • 13 avril 2025
🛫 Increased tariffs and strict border controls in the US have led to a tense travel climate, with reports of intense checks on Canadian and European travelers. Since Donald Trump's presidency began in January, France and European foreign ministries have updated travel advisories, and the German Foreign Affairs Ministry warns that visas or entrance exemptions do not guarantee entry. Accor Hotels in the US has seen a 25% booking drop from the previous year, and travel searches from France to the US have decreased by 20% to 26%, notably to cities like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Meanwhile, US tourism to Europe declines by 3% for conferences and 4% for business tourism, partly offset by increased Canadian visitors to Europe. In the face of economic uncertainties, travel insurance sales, including IMG's "Cancel for Any Reason" product, surged by 20% in early 2025. Despite market instabilities affecting online travel agencies, Airbnb maintains growth prospects, expecting an average revenue increase of 11% between 2026 and 2034.
