🎤 Suisse | Eurovision à Bâle. « And the winner is…. l’Alsace ! »

  • La Tribune de lHotellerie
  • 28 avril 2025
🎶 On May 17, 2025, the Eurovision final will take place in St. Jakobshalle, Basel, Switzerland. Nearby, hoteliers in Haut-Rhin, particularly around Saint-Louis, are experiencing increased bookings. Due to saturated Swiss hotel offerings and high rates in Basel, many visitors are choosing accommodations in France. Saint-Louis and Mulhouse hotels are almost fully booked for the event weekend. Alsace hotel prices have doubled, and some offer free shuttles to Basel. This situation mirrors the price dynamics observed during the Paris 2024 Olympics, but caution is advised as similar pricing strategies during the Olympics led to reduced occupancy due to perceived price gouging.

However, international visitor spending was still 5.3% below pre-crisis levels, causing a £2.2 billion loss. The WTTC criticized the UK for policy decisions that could harm tourism, such as implementing the ETA, eliminating tax-free shopping for tourists, increasing air taxes, and cutting VisitBritain's budget by 40%. These measures are especially detrimental to tourism outside of London, exacerbating regional inequalities.
