AWFT24 : « Ne pas utiliser les données pour s’adapter au changement climatique est irresponsable »

  • Julia Luczak-Rougeaux
  • 23 octobre 2024
🌎 At the 5th edition of A World For Travel forum, the National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) emphasized the critical role of space data in adapting to climate change. The Space for Climate Observatory (SCO), launched in 2019 by 23 space agencies including CNES, collects and analyzes data to aid the tourism sector in managing environmental impacts. CNES highlights that over half of essential climate variables can only be observed from satellites. The CNES's projections suggest that within 20 years, irreversible climate phenomena will occur, with a temperature rise beyond two degrees expected by 2050. Coastal regions like Brittany and Southern France face submersion in 15-20 years. Urban adaptations for heatwaves involve planning measures like tree planting and water features. Data also indicate that by 2050, most ski resorts in the Pyrenees and Alps will lose over half of their snow coverage. CNES collaborates with maritime companies to optimize routes, thus reducing fuel consumption and emissions, while also enhancing iceberg collision avoidance. CNES also contributes to disaster management with a predictive service for extreme events like hurricanes and tsunamis, aiding in timely evacuations in high-risk areas such as Florida and Bangladesh.

Booking et Airbnb frappés par une vague d’arnaques

  • Julia Luczak-Rougeaux
  • 18 octobre 2024
🧟 Booking and Airbnb users targeted by a scam involving fake payment error messages by the Telekopye cybercriminal network. Victims are redirected to fraudulent sites that closely mimic the reservation platforms. This scam, active since the beginning of the year, uses real reservation data such as arrival/departure dates, location, and price, making it hard to detect. Both platforms warn users, especially during high-traffic vacation periods, and urge vigilance and verification of URLs and direct service contact to prevent falling for these scams.

Enjeux et limites de l’IA générative dans le tourisme

  • Julia Luczak-Rougeaux
  • 16 octobre 2024
🏖️ ChatGPT launched in 2022, enhancing the possibilities for the tourism industry with generative AI, which has been rapidly developing since the 1960s. Key players include ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Amazon), Llama (Meta), Gemini (Google), and Mistral from France, notable for offline capabilities. Tools for tourism professionals comprise Dust (French LLM aggregator), NoteBook LLM (summary and conversation tool), Perplexity (contextual search engine with sources), ChatGPT (with "Edit" feature), and Microsoft Copilot (integrated with Microsoft suite for task automation). Generative AI applications in tourism include personalized content creation, enhanced customer service chatbots, marketing and sales process optimization, and marketing support material generation. Concerns include the accuracy of AI-generated information, energy consumption, data privacy (highlighted by a 2023 incident with Samsung), and the rise of deepfakes exemplified by a $25 million loss for a Hong Kong multinational due to an AI-generated scam.
